Observations on the new products to watch!

DV was the buzzword at this year's NAB show.  HDV is the new high definition DV tape format pioneered by JVC.  It makes High Definition video production affordable.  Apple announced Final Cut Studio with support for HDV.  Huge crowds were at the JVC booth, viewing the first professional HDV camcorder, the GY-HD100U .  Panasonic also announced a new HDV camcorder, the AG-HVX200, that is scheduled to arrive in late 2005.

A Big Buzz this year goes to Silicon Color for their Desktop Color Correction suite, FinalTouch HD. An affordable hi-end color correction, finishing and effects suite built on QuickTime and directly compatible with Final Cut Pro. 2K, HD and SD versions available!

SONY showed off their new DSR-400, and their new DSR-450, a 2/3" CCD DVCAM camcorder with native 16x9, 24P and 30P, at a price significantly lower than Panasonic's SDX900!

Avid introduced Xpress Studio HD, a new version and a lower price! Five integrated applications plus integrated hardware. The Digi002 automated surface controls both Avid Xpress HD and Avid Pro Tools LE. Avid Mojo delivers real-time output of finished video and effects, client monitor previews for Avid 3D and Avid FX, Uncompressed SD, also displays SD output of HD resolutions!
